PADKebb - Day 12

Oct 2010.  Best research ever!
While restlessly resting in our room, I came across this map neatly placed in the bar.  It was generally a normal one until I read the bottom part / benefactor of the proceeds.  It reads, "By purchasing this product, you help fund hangover research, expanding waistlines and fast cars."

I think I've found the perfect research facility to support!  :)

Momentary Mumblings: Bangkok Trip 2010

Coming from recent trips, I realized that the thing I love most about traveling is the perspective it gives you long after you've settled back home.  It gets you out of the daily grind of life, and makes you look at things differently.  Sometimes you can be in a rut without even knowing it, and traveling is the perfect cure to the uninspired life.

I would say that I'm a person with relatively O.C. tendencies.  Sure my office desk is a hopeless clutter 99% of the 365 days given to us each year, but my obsessive ways reflect on other parts of my life like say,  itineraries.  I'm a planner by nature, and I even get more anal when I know that I can depend on no one but myself.

And so, for our recent trip to Bangkok, I planned every single detail up to the entrees to order in the restaurants I chose based on internet reviews.  Fares were computed and routes chosen depending on the cheapest possible transportation available.  If that wasn't bad enough, I even had back-up plans in case our transportation plans didn't work out.  Skytrain, cabs, even bus numbers were in the itinerary.  Yes, I admit to my obsessive ways but there's nothing wrong with being prepared.

If there was one thing I learned from this trip, it's that itineraries are meant to be broken.  People wake up late (and by that, I would mean me), people stay too long in one place, they change their minds, and the list goes on.  Things happen, and even a million back-up plans can't stop them from happening.  The point is, traveling teaches you to be flexible.  Think quick, prioritize, but most of all, have fun and make the most out of what you have.

You can't plan every single detail in your trip, but you look for the things that are important enough to insist on.  In that aspect, traveling is a lot like life in fast forward.  You may have a life plan all written down, but not everything pans out the way you plan it.

You accept, you adjust, and you work on the new direction life takes you to.  Our time here isn't infinite as much as we'd like to think otherwise.  The sooner we accept it, the sooner we realize that life is riddled with choices, but has little room for regrets.

PADKebb - Day 11

Sept 2010. Photo Junkie.

PADKebb - Day 10

Aug 2008. The Provincial Life.

I got bored while waiting for our plane so I decided to take a look around.  Took this shot as I was walking along the parking lot.  It came out pretty nice.  Typical Busuanga.  Quiet and modest, but with tons to offer.

PADKebb - Day 9

August 2008. Deviance.

Veering away from the norm can be so tempting sometimes.  Wish I had the courage to actually do it.  Until then, I shall head back to my dronelike existence!  Oh what fun.

PADKebb - Day 8

Sept 2009. Dress shopping.

The original plan was to upload this photo a day before my sister's wedding.  Things got a little busy, and I ended up not uploading anything for the past three weeks.  Better late than never!

PADKebb - Day 7

June 2009. The beach necessities.

Happy birthday to Mi Padre!  Three years ago, he was gloating about the benefits of his senior citizen's card.  Now, I think he wants to fully embrace life as a senior as he continues to drop not so subtle hints about wanting a grandchild.

Cheers to the man who taught me how to drink, hydrate, and crawl to the toilet!

PADKebb - Day 6

March 2009.  Battle of the Introverts.

What made me take a second look at this picture was the interaction between the hermit crab and the makahiya.  I was curious who would shy away first upon contact.  I'll let you be the judge of that.  And the battle of the introverts begins!

Speaking of introverts (a.k.a. Me!), I found an article online that I wish I had found years ago!  I think it defines the word solidly, and I only wish I had that in my arsenal when my dad forced me to go to all his parties then.   Because let's face it, the whining, crying, and pleading did absolutely nothing for me!

But anyway, back to the topic and away from my oh-so-happy childhood memories.  Here's the link: http://giftedkids.about.com/od/glossary/g/introvert.htm

PADKebb - Day 5

Sept 2009.  Fiestas & bangketas - one can't go without the other.

Technically, Calbayog's fiesta is on Sept 7.  Then again, as a society, we tend to overextend celebrations so a day's delay is negligible.  Plus, the little fact that it was my grandma's birthday yesterday.  Birthdays trump fiestas.  It's just one of those hierarchies in life that you have ingrained in the back of your head.

Moving on, this is the cathedral where my parents got married and also where I was baptized.  I was baptized on Sept 10, which also happens to be my dad's birthday.  I'm fairly certain that it wasn't sheer coincidence.  It's either he was joining in on my day, or I was joining in his.  Then again since he was paying, maybe the latter one's more precise.

Either way, I don't mind.  I hate parties, he loves them.  He can have my share of the limelight (not that it's of any relevant value) any day of the week!

PADKebb - Day 4

Sept 2006.  Old meets New.

The only time I traveled with my grandma was when she visited me in Xiamen while I was taking a language course there.   And after this horribly brief introduction, I now move on to a birthday greeting, again.

Happy Birthday, Lola!  She turns 91 today!   In case you haven't noticed yet, it's birthday week for the Chan Clan, and we're only halfway through ;p

PADKebb - Day 3

Apr 2008.  One of the best sunsets I've ever seen.

Happy Birthday, Yeema!  See you in a few days, I hope!

PADKebb - Day 2

Sept 2009.  Always an interesting subject to shoot.

In memory of our Auntie Sylvia, who would have celebrated her 61st birthday today.

P.S. I'm shortening the title to PADKebb, since A Photo a Day... is quite lengthy to type every single day :)

A Photo a Day Keeps the Boredom at Bay - DAY 1

Sept 2009.  Love goats!  Maybe I should get a pet goat - Rob, this is for you!

A Photo a Day Keeps the Boredom at Bay

Day 2.  I've decided to start a new section in the blog, aptly called "A Photo a Day Keeps the Boredom at Bay".  It's pretty much an archive of a bunch of photos I've taken since I got my first digital camera (a Sony DSC-H1) back in '05.

Enjoy.  Comment.  And come back for the next one!

Until the next post,
Me

10 million years... to start a blog!

After 4 years of processing and 1 second of impulsive decision-making, I finally started my own blog!

I have yet to decide on what subjects to focus on in this blog.  The main objective is to whip my writing skills (however mediocre they appear to be) back into shape; and to play around with photography while I'm at it.

Oh, but there are tons of topics to choose from, and ten millions years to make my decision!  One thing I know for sure - this blog will not cover anything fashion-related!   Love my jeans.  Love my statement shirts.  Absolutely love my Chucks.  That's as much fashion I'll ever need in my life!

That's one down, a gazillion more to go.

Until the next post,
Me
